In the first part, we discussed the functions that individual container and truck loading applications have. Today, we evaluate user-friendliness, quality of calculation, see if the programs have a mobile version, and if they are online. If you are more interested in pricing; you can skip to the third part. For the final results, read the last part of our mini-series.

The list of all tested applications with links to their websites is at the end of this article.

At the beginning of this year, I started working at EasyCargo as a business developer. My task, among others, is to find new partners for cooperation to identify areas where we could find new customers. To do this work, I consider it crucial to know the product’s strengths, weaknesses, and understand its performance compared to the competition.

That’s why I spent the first few weeks looking for other types of load planning software that are competitors with EasyCargo, and tested their trial versions. For example, I was interested in the price of the applications, how intuitive and straightforward to use they are, how good the calculation is, how many languages they are available in, and so forth. I have written down everything in a table. Later, I was able to identify which customers is EasyCargo suitable for and which customers have needs that would be likely met better by some of our competitors.

It hasn’t even been half of a year since we published an article about the biggest container ship in the world MSC Gülsün, yet the information in the article is already outdated so here is a quick little update from us.

MSC Gülsün hasn’t enjoyed her status as the queen of container ships for long. Already after ten months since she was finished, the workers from South Korean shipyard Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering were done building a new ship. HMM Algeciras, which was then handed over to the owners of the ninth-largest container shipping line in the world, HMM company (formerly known as Hyundai Merchant Marine).

6 unusual uses of shipping containers Anna Melounová | 13. يوليو 2020

In the first part of this three-part miniseries about shipping containers, we took a trip down memory lane, talking about the history of shipping containers. In the second part, we described the most used types of shipping containers aand their typical use. In today’s last part, we will also focus on the use of containers. However, this time we will take it from the other end – we will have a look at the most unique uses of intermodal containers.

Although there are no official statistics, it is estimated that there are more than 14 million discarded containers and more are added each day. While the metal parts of the containers are designed to last more than 30 years, the reason why carriers discard containers is the plywood floor. That has to be in perfect condition for the carrier because they need to drive a forklift on it. However, the floor in slightly used condition does not prevent people from building various products from it. Not everyone needs to drive a multiton forklift on it.

In the first part of the three-part miniseries about sea containers, we took a trip down memory lane, talking about the history of shipping containers. In the second part, we will have a look at the most common types of intermodal containers and what they’re used for.

These are the most used containers in the world. The most common is a 40ft container followed by 20ft container. Both of these are 8ft wide and 8ft 6in tall. They have double-wing doors from one side and there are holes on the side walls by the upper edges to help with the ventilation.

History of shipping containers Anna Melounová | 6. مايو 2020

In the past, the goods used to be shipped in the form of breakbulk. Simply put, people literally threw bags with potatoes, barrels of wine, or wooden boxes of various dimensions with guns onto a horse-drawn carriage or later onto a truck. Then they drove to the nearest train station, where they had to unload the load and load it into a railway wagon. After that, the train transported the goods to the nearest port, where the goods had to be reloaded onto a ship. After arriving at the destination port, the whole process was repeated in reverse order.

The unfortunate events of the last couple of weeks have caused problems for many businesses. And while for many brick and mortar store is a necessity, there is still a lot of companies whose employees can work either entirely or at least partially from their home. The only thing they need is a laptop (and sometimes not even that) and an internet connection. The current situation has forced even those companies, which did not use to be home-office-friendly, to re-evaluate their approach and quickly come up with a solution on how to enable their operations to be run remotely.

How to load a truck Anna Melounová | 24. مارس 2020

Loading a container seems like a relatively easy task. However, once you realize how many legal and safety issues there are to be followed, things get a little complicated.

First of all, you need to meet all the legal and safety requirements. Trucks have a maximum permissible load which can’t be exceeded. Not only are there maximum loads for trucks as a whole, but also each axle has its own maximum load. Even the weight difference between the left and the right side of the axle can't differ much to preserve optimal drive-ability. In case you don’t meet the legal requirements, you’re at risk of a substantial fine.
